Resources for Parents

Sex ed starts at home

And it starts early!

Yup, you can start with sweet little babies and make sure that when you’re singing a song during a diaper change, you use the correct name for body parts (now we’re going to clean your penis...) and offer toys and games and stories that challenge traditional sex role stereotypes. And older kids really want to know what parents and caregivers think! Although they may give you mixed signals, research shows that kids do want to hear from the caring adults in their life…tell them what you think, share your values, insights and information…sexually healthy youth become sexually healthy adults!

Some parents and caregivers may feel a little squirrelly when it comes to talking about sex with young people. It can feel daunting and scary and you might now know where to start…many people report that they did not get good sex ed when they were young so they feel like they’re starting from scratch!

Well, there’s no need to do that!

We can help…that’s why we’re here.

As a parent in the finger lakes region of New York you have access to great people and resources who would love to help! Just give a call (pull box with education phone numbers in Ithaca and Horseheads) and we’ll do what we can to get you connected to the information and resources you need. We can send a pamphlet, sharing the title of great book or just talking through a tough topic that came up.

Sex is a part of life.
Be prepared.
Talk about it!
